•Prompt 4: Symbols of ourselves and
our cultures (weeks 10 – 12)
Choose FOUR images using Google Image
search, and be sure to describe why you chose each image:
(1) An image that represents something
about YOU
(2) An image that represents something
about US
American culture
(3) An image that represents something
about Filipino culture
(4) An image that represents something
about “global
culture”
1. I think this picture represents "me" because I am a part of my familia and we love eating together (we use our hands when eating in the country).
2. This picture represents American culture for me because Americans love football.
3. This represents my culture because this a type of public transportation in my country. It is called "jeepney" and I take a jeepney to go to school every day.

4. When I watched the last Olympics, I think those images reminded me of "global culture" because many countries were represented there. Everyone loves sports and supporting their own country!

1. That's interesting. In the US and Texas eating together is also a big part of family and community. During holidays we often give each other special foods like tamales and deer meat. What kinds of foods do people typically give each other where you are from in the Phillipines?
ReplyDelete2. Ha ha. It's true. People love football, and especially in Texas. That picture is of the Dallas Cowboys. When I was in kindergarten I thought wearing my Dallas Cowboys jacket was the coolest thing a kid could do. What sports are popular in the Phillipines?
3. Ah, yes! I have seen jeepneys before when I visited Cebu on vacation. In Texas there is not any good public transportation. There are buses in the big cities but most people just drive everywhere.
4. I agree. The Olympics is one of the most global events.
1. We have tamales in my country, too! They are usually wrapped in banana leaves. I have never eaten deer meat. Is it good? How do you cook it? We usually invite people over when there is an occasion and then we give our visitors "take out" food.
Delete2. Do most guys like to play American football? Do girls like men who play football? We love basketball in my country! There are regular tournaments in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, etc.
3. I do not drive in my country. I saw movies of teenagers driving in the US. How old were you when you started driving?
4. I have no idea of other global events that does not involve sports now.
